Public Building Inspection
Most local laws require public buildings to be inspected
annually. This survey entails testing for gas leakage and visually inspecting
gas facilities in the immediate area of the gas service entrance. This
provides the most complete inspection of large public and private buildings,
such as schools, hospitals, theaters, churches and public housing. The
person in charge of the building is notified of the reason for the inspection.
Portable flame ionization is then used to check for leakage around the
gas service, gas service entrance and meter. An inspection of the inside
shut-off for condition and accessibility is conducted. Combustible Gas
Indicator [CGI] readings are taken at the meter installation;point of
entry of the gas service; water, sewer, duct and telephone lines and
cracks along the street wall in the basement.
