Mobile Flame Ionization Survey
Vehicle mounted flame ionization equipment is used
to sample the atmosphere at ground level via sample tubes mounted at
the front of the survey vehicle. This insures prompt, efficient, street
leak detection. The vehicle is driven at speeds from 5-10 m.p.h. as
closely over the gas main as possible. Leaks indicated by the flame
ionization unit [FIU] are then verified and classified by making combustible
gas indicator tests. Areas surveyed are indicated on maps given to the
operator prior to the survey. As each section of the map is surveyed,
the operator will mark the map showing the area surveyed, the date and
his initials. Completed maps are returned to the gas company.
Winter Safety Patrol
Provides nightly and daily monitoring of critical cast iron pipelines during colder winter months.
Walking Flame Ionization Survey
Service lines are checked by a consultant using a portable flame ionization unit [FIU]. The atmosphere above the gas service line is sampled by a hand-held wand. This survey provides the most complete inspection.
Front yards, sidewalks, valve boxes and meters are checked thoroughly.
Leaks indicated by the flame ionization unit [FIU] are then verified and classified by making combustible gas indicator tests.
Where vegetation damage indicates possible gas leakage, tests are conducted.
